Extended Range Antenna

Occasionally while using Inspectorbots Minibot line of Robots, you may run into a situation where you need more range. Either environment factors or the long distance between the robot and the operator is causing interference or a poor signal on the video feed.

The extended range antenna is a Yagi type antenna - meaning it is directional. The main lobe of the signal pattern is along the axis that's perpendicular to the elements on the antenna. Meaning you need to point the antenna toward the transmitter (robot).

The Yagi antenna replaces the small black antenna on top of the Operator’s Control Unit (Pelican Case OCU.) To install simply remove the small black antenna from the OCU, attach one end of the SMA extension cable to the SMA panel mount atop the OCU. Attach the extended range antenna to the stand by screwing the stand onto the Delrin block mounted to the antenna.

Finally attach the SMA cable to the extended range Antenna. Place the antenna and stand on the ground and point it toward the Robot. Power up the Robot and OCU as usual. If the Robot is travelling perpendicular to the video transmission signal, you many need to manually swing the Yagi antenna toward the robot.

It is important to note that video is recorded by the GoPro camera aboard the robot and not affected by signal fluctuations in the video transmission system. The extended range antenna increases the signal strength, range and clarity of the live video feed enabling you to extend the range of the robotic system.
